After all the noir images, these pop my eyes out with color and movement. Great shots. I especially liked the “Weeee,” since I will never go on that ride, lest I puke all my Type II Diabetes food up.
Ah . . . summer fun. Bruce Springsteen singing, “Did you hear, the cops finally busted Madame Marie, for telling fortunes better than they do. For me this carnival life’s through – you ought to quit this scene to.” [Cue that funky organ grinder music].
I saw Madame Marie’s shack down off the boardwalk of Asbury Park in 1997, when we lived in Jersey. The old Stone Pony was still there, too. Ahhh . . . thanks for memory lane, FJ. You rock.
Type 2 diabetes alright! There is some Jamie Oliver show on over here at the moment about him going to the states to ‘revolutionize’ the most unhealthiest town in the universe and he unloads a truck load of fat on their doorstep. I wonder if it really is that bad over there, diet etc…?!
Love, love, love the joy and movement and colour in the top shot
i am reminded of the summer job my brother had in high school. a “Litter Gitter” at Coney Island. Had the unfortunate territory of the exit ramp from the ‘whirl-a-gig’. It was, apparently, puke-a-rific!
You know FJ; if somebody on the swings did accidentally go weeee I believe you would have been in the position for a direct hit.
And while I was thinking of a witty way to rub in the fact that I have access to a much higher quality of churros I couldn’t help but notice that somebody spelled snow cones incorrectly. What kind of freaks do they have running that show?
I hope you have more more more state fair shots. This is a photo essay just waiting to be published. So garish. Spooky. Surreal.
Yes, about that jamie Oliver thing Ruby mentioned, I’m wondering if it ever aired in the US?
But Bob, the apple is much larger than the other junk food. I hope you took lots and lots of photos at the state fair, your take has been very interesting so far. Keep it up.
Photo # 1: right click, save (I think that says it all)…first photo of yours I have ever saved!! Not sure why it didn’t occur to me before. Bet I could weave a story about photo # 1 and quantum mechanics (oh, if I only had time!!).

The coloring in the top pic looks like it was from the 60′s. Maybe because that ride is leftover from the 60′s.
Oh no…someone got loose…wwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeee THUD
I shot this in the late afternoon, so it had a nice golden glow to it, but yes, it has a 60s feel to it.
Awesome shots……I swear……… I’m there!
Haha, you are there. I would love to shoot some county fairs in Tejas, thanks amigo.
Weeeeee, puke… stufffff, puke…!
Haha, the fair is vomit compliant.
Both are fantastic shots! “Type II Diabetes”…priceless!!
Sweet, thanks Tracy.
so colorful…but I can’t do those kind of rides!
I love the rides and did several and its still a blast.

Well Tom, you need to do the rides before the fried twinkie. Thanks man.

Memory lane indeed Dan. You seem pretty in touch with your memories, which must be an advantage as a writer. Thanks amigo, I glad you dug it.
So cool. You spark some flashbacks!

I don’t know if its that bad, but there are areas in the south where folks still fry everything. Glad to liked it Ruby, thanks much.

I don’t doubt it Daisy.
Coney Island is so iconic, I love old photos of the place. Good to hear from you as always.

Love the color!
Carnies are running the show…nuf said. Thanks amigo.
LOVE the first photo. and the caption for the second…? Priceless.

I do have a few more and thanks for the kind words. I am unaware whether the Jamie Oliver show ever aired here.
But Bob, the apple is much larger than the other junk food. I hope you took lots and lots of photos at the state fair, your take has been very interesting so far. Keep it up.
Thanks Lynn, there is more on the way.
Why you gotta do this, FJ? Just when I finally commit to your B&W (and Sepia) shots, you pull these out.
As a child I remember being obsessed with the fair, but even back then it wasn’t as awesome-looking as it is through your eyes.
ps. Type II Diabetes has never been so delicious!
Thanks B, I am glad you liked them. Some more B&W are coming next post.
That first picture is very scary—those things are disaster-mobiles…
I love the 2nd one—that candy-apple looks like absolute nirvana…oh em gee
Many thanks Ron, I had a funnel cake myself…uummm

These are wonderful, Bob. Nice catch. I especially like the first one.
Thanks Dave, I liked that one myself.
PERFECT! I love these shots! Wish I had done the Fair with you. Great!
