Couldn’t help but think of the fire hydrants in New England (decades ago) that were painted hot pink and fire hydrant yellow when I glimpsed photo # 2. Those hydrants were pretty (maybe a little 60s Berkeleyesque when I think about it) and the image stuck with me all these years. I have never seen such a sight since. Bring on the color!!
I agree, let there be color. I have to ask Elizabeth, are you a night-owl, a day sleeper, an insomniac, or do you get up farmer early?? I have always been a night-owl and will cop to insomnia.
Ten years ago, I awoke at 5 am. Not sure what happened, but bedtime gradually inched later and later. I now go to bed between 6 and 6:30 am. I dread the time change in a few weeks (even more difficult to make appointments/take care of business). Since you are a West Coaster and fellow insomniac, you can appreciate how difficult it can be to reach businesses on the East Coast with the 3 hour time difference. I finally figured out that I can call around 5-6 am and get someone. Nighttime is awesome: no traffic, no lines at the grocery store, no jostling. Woot, woot!
P.S. I’m hoping to spend a few months in London soon and may finally get to adjust my clock. Last time I got back from overseas, I was waking up at 3 am.
If we lived on Mercury, at certain vantage points we could see the sun rise twice in the same day. The sun would rise about halfway, then reverse and set on the same horizon, then rise again to complete its circuit. Astronomy 101 and ‘Sleeping 101′ for insomniacs on such a Mercurian world.
Wonderwall looks like the temple to a cult that worships power line towers in right-of-ways. Chroma gives me a distinct Dunkin’ Donuts feeling. The colors are very close in a cool, retro way. Great shots, FJ!
Haha, sorry if I threw you off. Actually CLT, in the previous post (Shadowplay) I included Joy Division as a tag just for you. They’re a long dead (literally) post punk band who had a song called Shadowplay, which was covered recently by The Killers.
You have no idea how much I’ve kicked myself today for missing that reference. It’s enough to make one depressed and antagonistic.
And so I’ll just quote them in a perhaps inappropriate manner:
“But if you could just see the beauty
These things I could never describe
This is my one consolation
This is my wonderful prize”
There’s something to put in the forward, whenever you get around to publishing your massive coffee table book full of photography and clown/poop/gall bladder/groin mauling anecdotes.
I’m rather fond of Autosuggestion myself, but the lyrics don’t lend themselves to quoting, especially when the most powerful part of the track is the band building speed while Curtis alternates between self-hatred and projected disdain with the line “So lose some sleep and say you tried.” Over and over and over again.
Fundamental Jelly is operated, for no apparent reason and to no useful purpose, by Robert J from a small home office in Northern California. Robert J is a wildlife biologist and once witnessed a clown pick up dog poop with a spoon.

I agree nighttime has its advantages. Wow, months in London, you poor thing. Good night e3h.
“Home exchange.” Goodnight Ben, goodnight Erin, goodnight Jim-Bob, goodnight Mary Ellen, goodnight Elizabeth, goodnight John-Boy, goodnight Fundamental.
Goodnight Elizabeth-boy.

Haha, poetic e3h.
Of course if you did live on Mercury you would also be on fire, which would put a damper on watching the sunrise. You really should be an astronomer.
BTW, I have seen over 60 of the Messier objects through a 14″ telescope. M104 (Sombrero Galaxy) and M57 (Ring Nebula) are my personal favs.
Wonderwall! Great details, I’ve been looking at stone structures more lately. This one is nice as it shows the carver’s took marks.
Thanks Laura, this was in a garden at the Carmel Mission.
love love love the chroma
Thanks Lulu.
Yeah! Chroma!
curved AND colored bricks! sweet!
Its a good picture but we don’t need to get that excisted Beano.

Ha, America runs on Dunkin’. Thanks Dan.
Of all the Oasis songs in all the gin joints in all the world, why’d it have to be “Wonderwall” that is now stuck in my head?
(I’m pretty sure that’s rhetorical. “F**kin in the Bushes” is catchy but no words. “Cigarettes in Hell” has great words, but not catchy enough.)
(Never mind. “Remedy” by the Black Crowes just jumped in there for no apparent reason. Good enough.)
Great shots, FJ, even if the titles vex me…

And of course, I meant “foreword.” Like at the beginning of a book. Rather than a 6’7″-6″10″ basketball player.
Too rich, I am glad we settled that. You’re still the ‘go-to-music-guy’ though.
Both these images together, somehow make for a great juxtaposition!
Thanks Juicer.
What year was the Carmel Mission built? It looks like some of the ancient structures found around here. Amazing shot FJ!!
Is Choma a Redskins practice facility?
Late 1700s, so yea, you’re seeing similar building out you way.
Haha, its actually Joe Gibbs house….thanks man.
Chroma chroma chroma! I love it
Seems to be the winner!!
Chroma! If your gonna give me color then GIVE ME COLOR! You did!
Haha, I did!
Are you going to come visit my store when we have art showings? http://onlyatbarnhills.wordpress.com/
Hey, look everybody its Claire Collins…I mean Tracy. Checking it out now.
I too prefer architectural details to geese and you have captured two vastly different but equally interesting structures.
I appreciate that Lynn.
Oooh, I really dig the Wonder Wall, Bob. Nice black and white.
Thanks Dave, I like them too.
Do you have photographs of Mr. Richardville? If so, please post them immediately. Thanking you in advance.
I certainly want too…see what I can do.
Love ‘Chroma’! You just don’t see enough plum in building motif.
Thanks RR, that’s my feeling exactly.
