That’s funny Elizabeth, because a photo buddy of mine and I have been experimenting with noir style lighting for some future portraits. I am learning some of the tricks of the cinematography trade. The whole genre is very cool. When we finally get around to it I’ll post some.
I especially liked the spider vein wall. Shadows are always interesting in images, because the detail is left to my imagination. And the red vase just comes off the page with color. Good work, as usual.
Thanks Jill, it was just direct sunlight coming through the window hitting the vase sittting on our piano…so I got my camera and shot it. I did move the vase a bit, but essentially ‘found’ it like that.
The first one is just gorgeous and I love the way the shadow of the trees just stops sharply at the top of the wall and gives way to the blue of the sky. And I’m looking forward to your ‘noir’ pics. I’ve asked my cinematographer friend, ‘The Queen of Chiaroscuro’, I call her, to give me some lessons in light when I get a real camera.
Thanks SE, it may be a while before I shoot the noir shots, but I want to do it. If anyone can help you with light, then someone with the word Chiaroscuro in their nickname has got to be that person.
Electric! That is unbelievable red! Are those real shadows or a painting of trees? Both are stunning, FJ, and evoke great feelings. Unreal . . . it’s like going from Jimi Hendrix to Simon and Garfunkel in the wink of an eye. Wow.

Fundamental Jelly is operated, for no apparent reason and to no useful purpose, by Robert J from a small home office in Northern California. Robert J is a wildlife biologist and once witnessed a clown pick up dog poop with a spoon.

The last shot reminds me of the shadow-rich noir style of some really good 50s B-movies.

Why not take some of the fallen twigs from behind Sherri’s and put them in the vase?
Haha, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that.
both shots = yummy
Thanks Lulu.

True enough, thanks Tom.
how did you get that vase to reflect like that? amazing!

It’s always a good idea to case the joint before you rob it, FJ. Try to catch Sherri towards the weekend, when she’s flush with cash.
I think I will just make a play for the tip-jar and leave it at that.

Hey Dan, all real shadows as shot. Haha, so which is Jimi?? Thanks amigo.
You’re right! I guess it depends on the song . . . great shadows!
Both very nice in very different ways.
Thanks Lynn.
the red is eye poppingly gorgeous! I love the painterly effect of the tree shadows against the wall
Thanks nursie.
What did Sherri do to deserve such beauty? Really FJ, that is my favorite photo…maybe of all time. It’s just stunning!
Haha, Sherri’s probably unaware of what’s out back. Thanks for the kind words amigo.
love these
Thanks Corve.
I can’t stop looking at these…each, for different reasons.
Tremendous stuff, FJ.
ps. Do you know if Sherri does acrylic or gel?
Haha, sounds like Sherri is in the paint business. Good to hear from you B, thanks.
You had me at “Sherri’s backdoor”.
Haha
You see stuff that goes right by most mortals. That is what we love about FJ. Keep looking! These are cool.
