Photographing architectural features has never be a staple for me, but lately I have been trying my hand at this photographic genre. Here’s my take for your perusal. Others to follow.
California Academy of Science - San Francisco, California
Serbian Chapel - Jackson, California

These both make me feel so peaceful. Interesting because of the obvious differences in…everything about them.
That’s interesting PV, I always enjoy hearing what you have to say…maybe because you’re a poet. Thanks.
The chapel could fit in the sphere, almost like it was hatched. Great imagery, FJ. The chapel is so peaceful.
Haha, you have an active imagination Dan. Peaceful works, thanks amigo.
I like the hatching analogy
wow. this is good
Thanks kseverny, appreciate the drive-by. I will have to stop by your blog and see what’s cooking.
I like all the graphic elements going on in the first one. Exactly what are we looking at?
Thanks Jill, what you are looking at is the outside of the planetarium.
That’s what I would have guessed, but it didn’t look large enough.
Well done, Bob. I prefer the first of the two, but both are excellent. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Dave. The first is my fav as well.
Very nice individually and as a pair.
Thanks Lynn.
Even though I know it’s just a planetarium, it seems more forboding, as though something secret and conspiratorial were going on inside. If only we knew what it was… except our uneducated intellects couldn’t handle it and we’d all be dead in a week, either for knowing “too much,” or from the horrific affront to God they’re bioengineering in there.
I’ll forever be amazed that field-tripping students emerge from there alive and pretty much unaltered (if you don’t count the squinting).
I really dig this series, FJ. I’ve always been more partial to the constructed artificialities of man than to the bland green wilderness of nature.
Haha, landscapes offer so little in terms of conspiracy. Thanks bro.
The fabulous resorts in Las Vegas are one of the few places on Earth where your eyes are drawn upwards (architectural splendor and blingy ceilings). How I would love to live in the midst of photo #1 and gaze upward. I might never get out of bed and if I did I would probably take on the posture of a permanently retracted Pez dispenser.
Haha, I’ll take that as a compliment. BTW, have you checked out ‘City Center?’
For an almost 9 billion dollar enterprise, it was surprisingly ‘unfinished’. Very sleek and modernistic. Reminds me of Hong Kong. You can see where they ran out of money (seriously ran out of money) and skimped on the finishes, but it still ‘pops’ and anchors the South Strip. I’m looking to move into a condo next door so I guess I will be seeing more of it. For my money, nothing beats the tropically themed Mandalay Bay (a few doors down) and its awesome House of Blues.
They’re both totally cool in totally different kind of ways.
I’m going to make it a point to travel around Spain, Portugal and France and get a ton of shots of churches and castles this summer. I hope I can make you proud!
Thanks Scott, I am looking forward to your travel photos.
Fantabulous, FJ. I so dig these.
Sweet, thanks Ms B.
I thought the man’s forehead was the third photo, sorry!
Glad Just Jill asked for me!
FJ your award awaits you at HC just now…
Cool, I am my way to check it out.
These two work together very well, apart from the curved domes they are indeed different in many ways. I love the peace of the second one.
Glad you liked them SE, good to see you back in action.
I use to have a real passion for architectural photography. I like your start.
Thanks RR. ..it must be Sunday.
Great captures here Bob. I love the architecture at Cal Academy. It’s so interesting and… I guess they say it’s the greenest museum in the world ( or is it just the US? )
Thanks Amber, it is a wonderful building. Whatever it is, its really green.
“We got married in a fever/ hotter than a Serbian pepper sprout/ I’ve been thinking ’bout Jackson/ever since the fire went out … “
Haha, June and Johnny would be so proud. Thanks for stopping by Mitzi G.
