While sorting through my digital photographs, I noticed that I had quite a few shots with air vents in the background. I am told by members of the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning) Industry that these vents are actually called ‘registers’ by folks who install them. So, apparently I have a nice collection of registers. I am not sure what this means, I don’t think I fear them or anything…YET. I guess small CCTV cameras could be placed inside them to spy on us all. But why would anyone do that?

I would VENTure to say that with the adVENT of the digital camera, you shoot without thinking about wasting film. I know I shoot way more stuff because pixels are cheap and and the delete button is easy. Nice adVENTURE.

I do so like collections. I have a tiny flat that is over-full. I’m starting to lean more to collecting via the camera. Takes up much less space and still satisfies my desire to see things ‘same same, but different’, like these shots do.

Maybe it’s only because you posted this right after the ‘alien housing’ series, but this gives me a distinctly uneasy feeling. The first two definitions of register are 1- a book in which records of acts, events, names, etc., are kept. 2- a list or record of such acts, events, etc.
Are you seeing the implications of this? So, who’s to say that the aliens haven’t taken over the HVAC industry and are now monitoring us through the use of these evil registers? They may be and probably are… Big Brothering us, poisoning our wine, clouding our minds, making our wives….make us do stuff that we probably don’t feel like doing….at least not while the game is on, dimming the lights, and making us write in run-on sentences!

Call me self-absorbed, but I feel as though this post was calling out specifically to me.
Having worked for a Commercial Property Management Company for three years, I interacted (both professionally and socially) with the “HVAC guys” on a pretty regular basis.
And just yesterday I was having lunch with my friends, who were trying to convince me to start drinking wine. “Sure, the hangovers are bad,” they told me, “but it’s so much classier than those vodka/Hawaiian Punch cocktails you always insist on drinking every time we go to a house party.”
…Whatev.
