City Nocturne

11 09 2009

This will probably be the last post for a week or two as I am in the process of replacing my old computer.  I also apologise for not be able to comment on all of your blogs for the time being, I’ll get caught-up when I am back on-line.

I shot these photographs while driving around late one night last week.  They’re abstract and atmospheric, but I liked the feel of them.  As always, over thinking and the building of elaborate back stories is encouraged.  Thanks, good night.

Love, love, love #2!! What exactly was it that you were passing?

Hurry back soon, FJ.

First of all, should we be concerned that our favorite wildlife biologist is taking photographs while driving?

The photos together have a rainbow effect. Green, blue, yellow, red. I truly enjoy your rainbow in the dark. Each photo has it’s own special appeal. Green is my favorite color so I love the splash in the middle of the blackness on the first one.

The second one is just crazy. What is that? I love it!

The third one is simply calm and surreal. It’s a good counterbalance to the bright lights in the first two.

Remember my horror film comment a few threads ago? The stop sign would fit in with those. I expect something eerie to step from behind the stop sign.

I wish I lived in a town where they had LED Stop Signs.

“If you look to your right, you’ll see (briefly) Free Waterfall Jr.’s House of Greenery, which he repeats is not a head shop. I’ve been smoking for 15 years and I have yet to use any of these ‘tobacco accessories,’ but then again, I also don’t live in my parents’ basement.

On your left is the phenomenon known as the ‘Western Lights.” While not as staggeringly effective as the more popular Northern Lights, they do have a certain charm to them, such as their luminesence and general ‘what the hell is that’ quality. Best viewed from a safe distance and a high speed, as leading creation scientists have speculated that if you don’t immediately understand it, it’s probably dangerous and/or could knock up your daughters.

Back to your right…

This is the grimly effective facade of the local library/youth detention center. Killing two birds with one stone was the name of the city council’s game. Figuring kids hate reading, especially lousy kids who steal cars and hijack my email accounts, they decided to cage them and the books together.

They have been warned that educating prisoners allows them to circumvent the appeals system and assemble bombs out of care packages, but they continue to hold forth that ‘no real dangers exists here, unless, of course, the detainees are provided with Raquel Welch posters or a copy of GAAP regulations.’

And this little fellow here is purely decorative. The neighbors would like to believe it would stop traffic, as there are a lot of small children in the area, but so far they seem have joined the journalism crowd and are putting way to much stock in the power of the printed word.

Alternately, we have also subtitled the last shot ‘Hammer Time.’”

Some inspiring shots there, FunJo. Makes me want to hit the road with both hands on the camera.

Abstract in my dictionary is spelled FUN!! And this is! :)
Love the first, although a story doesn’t immediately comes to mind. The second one inspires the idea of a drive-through dance club. lol.
Come back soon!

You and your excuses: “I’m on vacation” “I’m traveling on business to Vancouver”

Come on man, they’re lame and you need–

Whoops. Hah! Those were my excuses.

All very valid, I might add…

Lovely work, FJ, you do with a camera what CLT does with a sentence: Turn it into the wonderfully unexpected.

I’m late to the comment party, but these remind me of the late nights I spent with friends when I was in my 20s. We’d work late and then wander in a pack, happy and high (shh…).
