I wish it were otherwise, but I will be slammed for the next ten days with fieldwork. When I am not walking long, hot transects and losing electrolytes at dangerously high levels, I will be reduced to stupefaction by doing too much of this:

So, in the meantime, I’ll leave you with one more photo to ponder. I promise not to turn this platform into a photoblog and will hopefully have something interesting to report when I get back. I will try to get in a little commenting if I get a chance. Thanks for your patience.

Lily - Monterey County, California 2009

I have no objections to you turning this into a photo blog. I love the lily!
Thanks for the vote of confidence NM.
What the Deuce? Hobby Photography while driving is never safe.
I still visit every day, even when I know you’ll be gone. This gives me hope for my own little hiatus. Love your new header image, and the photo is very soothing, and also a little tricky. For some reason, at first glance, I thought the lily was growing in front of a rough-hewn wooden post. The shadow looked reversed in perspective, if you understand. Sort of an optical illusion. Or maybe I’m just inattentive.
I’ve searched that wonderful picture and searched. I see the lily but where is the ‘groin mauling’- in the corner, in shadow? It’s one of your tags. I get Star Wars: barren land, dehydration etc….
Are you trying to boost stats? attract pervs? I love the word perv… so, so, selfexplanatory. I’ve found the best word for attracting search engine searches would appear to be Mandala! I have effing idea why but try it……
The photo is great; you have an amazing eye as well as a lovely set of locks..

I love your photos. Don’t apologize. Take care out there working. BKT is correct when she mentions the optical illusion of the shadow. Cool photo.
That’s great. You have a real eye.
And I must say, you really captured the groin maul.
(Keep looking delicate flower!)
i hate when you leave! i keep pulling up your page like there’s going to be somthing new. kind of like how i look in the fridge every hour on the hour hoping that there will be food in there. i hope a lot. like…a lot.
Is this a prison? Great photo in black and white. Makes the lily pop.
that’s cool…lily pop!
No objections to the photos (I love them), and I’m envious that you get to be in the wild for awhile! Good for the soul.
Or should I say it’s good for buffering…
Ok, thanks Al I see it now.. I guess you’re a bit of an expert on groin maulings now? Nice!!
Yeah, I am. (My parents are so proud.)
It’s all about knowing where to look for them.
Poor FJ. I know you’d much rather be out here blogging than traveling and hiking. Try to keep as many electrolites in as you can. Just let us know when you return and until then you will be missed!
Thanks Claire!!
FJ is out in the wild but I keep checking back, just in case. I have hiked with the man and he is a wealth of info. Funniest of companions too.
As the Parents of the Corn often yelled to the Children of the Corn: “Have fun out in the field! Clean up any messes you make and be home in time for some intense, ritualistic prayin’ and murderin’!”
I love black and white photography, and I love that picture! While I believe I can see the groin, I can’t seem to find the mauling. I wonder what Freud would say about my inability to see the mauling?
Keep looking!!
Nice pictures.
Thanks RR.
In regards to your Highway photograph….Shirley was the only thing that came to mind.
Odd isn’t it?
How does that make you feel?
In a word…Abandoned !
